A quarantine count checks the quantity, identity and location of products awaiting a decision on further distribution. Such goods are reconciled separately from stock available for dispatch.
What quarantine stock includes
Quarantine can be a separate area or a status in the inventory system. It may include new deliveries awaiting checks, returns or products with suspected quality issues. Company procedures define statuses and access rules.
Which data to check
- Product name and identifier.
- Batch or lot number and expiry date, if included in the methodology.
- Actual quantity and unit of measure.
- Storage location and status in the inventory system.
- Reason for quarantine and responsible person, using customer-provided information.

Avoiding mixed stock statuses
Agree area boundaries and movement recording before counting. Products transferred between statuses during verification must be reconciled to one reference time. Otherwise, a false shortage in one area and surplus in another may appear.
What inventory results mean
The results compare actual quantities with records and identify items for further checks. Counting itself does not certify product quality, change quarantine status or authorise sale.
Authorised people decide on release, return or disposal under established procedures. Count data supports traceability and internal control; regulatory compliance is assessed separately.
How InventoryPro helps
InventoryPro counts warehouse stock using the agreed methodology. Before starting, we agree data fields, identification rules, data exchange and verification reports. We record results using scanners, handheld terminals and in-house software.
The customer receives data to reconcile quantities, locations and statuses. Recounts and transaction analysis help distinguish location errors from quantity discrepancies.
